Book review: The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

I was expecting a lot from this book. The language of Carlos Ruiz Zafón is truly beautiful, almost poetic. His words make it pleasant, with visual writing and descriptions. Every page captivates, takes you and encourages you to continue reading. A collection of characters, but each one well defined. Normally I think it’s annoying when there are many characters appear in a book, but you forgot no one. The different locations in the dark Barcelona is perfect. They are so graphically described, so it looks like you're there. This is a book about the love of the book, in a story that takes place over a time span of 21 years, with a nostalgic touch, a touch of magic realism, a pinch of history and an ultimate atmosphere. The writer knows to hold the tension until the end, because of  his smooth way of writing. A book you should take time for.

“Het aftasten van deuren die zich in je ziel openen, je verliezen in de verbeelding, de schoonheid en het mysterie van de schijn en de taal.”
