The Other Side Of Florence

As many know, is Florence split in two parts because of the Arno river. On one side there is the tourist and historical center with the Duomo, on the other the low quarter Oltrarno (Oltre l'Arno) The name means “the other side of the river”. You can walk from the Ponte Vecchio to these fascinating and picturesque villages, because really ... it's like taking a journey through time.
.
You can find here the real Florentine: Il Fiorentino DOC. You experience the city like a real Florentine does. This makes this area so authentic. At night the young people come together, toasting wine in front of fountain, very relaxed. No clubs or trendy bars, not elitist affair of "see and be seen." Surely my favorite part of Florence, you're beyond the hustle and bustle, you experience the real Florence with the amazing Italian atmosphere. The smell of the pasta that every moment can be put on the table, you see the laundry hanging outside, but also old churches that suddenly pop up between the houses. Very different compared to the busy tourist center.

There are a lot of alternative cafes in hidden squares, like Volume (Piazza Santo Spirito), small atmospheric streets, antique shops, craft shops and cozy restaurants. Without the hustle of the crowd, you can admire all the wonderful things around you. Wander through to the magnificent Palazzo Pitti, formerly occupied by the banker Luca Pitti, the Duke of Tuscany. A Renaissance palace with several museums. There is a diverse art collection exhibited paintings, sculptures, porcelain and a costume gallery. Behind Palazzo Pitti, you can find the Boboli Gardens, definitely worth a visit. For breathtaking views you'll need to climb a hill to the park Piazzale Michelangelo. This is the place to make great pictures. Florence is already a magical city, but when you discover this side of the city, you don’t want to leave.
